I never ever had a doubt About how it would all work out But now I lay awake and wonder If I might be wrong What broke the spell that I was under Under for so long Now black and white has turned to grey Dusk and dawn replace the day And it’s a certainty no longer About what I have to say I’m feeling weak instead of stronger I change my mind from day to day I’ve got to make a new start Have a change of heart I’ve got to get a new plan Be a new man if I can I never ever had a doubt About how it would all turn out But I look in the mirror every morning And lord it tells me the truth I greet each greying hair good morning And kiss goodbye to my youth I’ve got to make a new start Have a change of heart Get a new plan If I can

Well I’m standing and I’m watching outside your front door There’s a car parked in the driveway and I know that car’s not yours Upstairs in the bedroom a dim red light comes on Up in the bedroom I wonder what’s going on Up in the bedroom I wonder what’s going on I’ve been walking I’ve been dreaming always seem to end up here Neighbors and policemen trying to kick me out of their street I’ve been sacked Ive been kicked out my phone calls are left unanswered Up in the bedroom I wonder what’s going on I’ve been checking up on Facebook following all your tweets I got a car no one knows about I park it at the end of your street In your driveway must be a tradesman but he left his tools in his white van Up in the bedroom I wonder what’s going on

I don’t know where you are I don’t even know your names but I know you’re out there somewhere so I’ll write this just the same I trust this finds you well I hope life is treating you OK I know this comes out of the blue but there’s something I’d like to say I just found out your mother died quite a while ago Nobody told me there’s no reason I should know But you see, I knew your mother in my last year of school She was in the brainy class and I was a sporting fool She took a shine to me I’ve got no idea why She was the first girl I ever kissed and the first to make me cry I called her mine it didn’t last very long She let me down gently said it was time to move along Well I never went back to school and then she moved away I heard her name mentioned now and then ‘till I found out yesterday I still have a letter that your mother wrote to me And takes me straight back to that summer and love’s mystery I’d like to let you know but I don’t know where to start That a little piece of Hilary lives on in my heart

Gonna get up in the morning believe I’ll dust my broom by the time the day is dawning I’ll be clearing out my room One more cup of coffee Then I’ll be gone No one here to stop me I’m moving on Yes I’m leaving I’ve been gone to long Yes I’m coming I’m singing a leaving song Wrote my landlord a letter sent him off a cheque Even though I’m leaving here forever I don’t want to leave any debt The kid next door can have my car I’ve given him the keys The only things I’m taking with me are some clothes and a few CDs Yes I’m coming I’ll be home soon The ‘plane flies in to Adelaide Thursday afternoon

Mining Boom 02:52
Good news Mike steps up to the plate He says here’s the way were going to save our state Don’t worry about housing don’t worry about health Here’s the way were going to spread the wealth It’s a mining boom It’ll be here soon A mining boom It will lift the gloom It’s all out there in the desert All we got to do is get it It’s a mining boom a mining boom We’re gunna dig a big hole and sell it to China All our sons and daughters are going to be miners Wear a safety vest fly in fly out fly in fly out fly in fly out If it’s in the ground we’re gunna dig it out It’s a mining boom It’ll be here soon

Fishing 03:26
I met an old friend I had not seen for years I said lets go out and have some beers He said I’ve got a better idea man Lets go fishing Well for me fishing’s a metaphor for life Just a lot of sitting around hoping and wishing But we went out anyway a few weeks later In the tinny that he bought with his divorce money And he said to me He said how’s your love life you were always one for the ladies I said gimme a break man that was back in the early 1980s Those days have well and truly passed me by Oh no man your wrong he said and let me tell you why There’s a lot of hot babes all waiting out there Just craving some old fat bloke with thinning hair And if you’re broke that’s even better that really gets em going ‘Cause there’s nothing they like better Than cooking cleaning and sewing I did not take much comfort from that proposition I just threw out another line and got on with my fishing But then I started thinking maybe he’s right You know something like sexy lady looking for a man with bad eyesight That’s when I realised we’d been out there too long We caught nothing edible our bait was all wrong I said stuff this man I’ve had a gut full He said yeah lets go to the pub and have a schnitzel

Five men in a car not sure where we are But we’re going somewhere - we’ll get there It’s 4am on and we’re still hours away Only trucks and us on this giant highway Five men in a car Towns go bye, they’re just names Refuelling stops on our road to fame We’ve been here before - maybe now Im not sure But it looks the same as the place before Now it’s my turn to drive The oil light comes on outside Nundroo If we break down out here not sure what we’ll do Roadhouse food near Gundagai Could be Horsham or Hay or Lismore or Yass or Narrabri Roadhouse food Roadhouse blues Five men in a car Five men in a car

It runs alongside the city past all the things they don’t want you to see And it goes to all the places where you don’t want to be It’s the home of the hi-vis shirt and the clapped out Commodore Of smokes hang in’ out the window and one eye out for the law There’s no prestigious location, no desirable postcode There’s nothing up and coming on Grand Junction Road At the IGA near Addison Road They do their best to keep it clean well stocked and in straight rows But in the car park there’s a deal going down Between young men so far gone they’re barely human And on the corner there’s a girl so stoned she can hardly stand When just a mile or two down the road she could be kicking heels off in the sand There’s bottle shops selling to the always pissed Street girls servicing the never kissed Late night pokies for the barely missed Truck loads of crap for the Wingfield tip It’s the place you go to make a living It’s not the place you want to live in You won’t find nothin’ to ease your load Driving down Grand Junction Road My father worked in a factory there, just down from the prison Sometimes six days a week but most often seven I wonder what he thought about all those years he drove First thing every morning down Grand Junction Road

Take a trip across the ocean or a shack by the sea You can go just any place where you’d like to be On a tropical island or buy a mountain stream I can go just anywhere but only in my dreams I gotta do something before I get old But all of this waiting round eats away at my soul And it’s always better in another place Always better in another place I want to run my own race And not be cut down On a tropical island or by a mountain stream I can go just anywhere but only in my dreams Because here I’ve got nothing I’m stuck in this hole The only place I ever see my name is written on my dole form And it’s always better in another place Always better in another place I want to go where I can run my own race And not be cut down

I'm Waiting 03:20
I got there at the appointed time I waited and waited until it was way past nine I said to myself What do I bother for? But I knew in my heart I’d wait forever more I’d wait for you till the moon turns blue I’d wait for you till they sky falls through I’m waiting I’m waiting Ever since you stood me up I’ve been down and out I’ve been walking around I’ve been crying out You’re in my heart and you’re on my mind And I’ll wait for you until the end of time I’ll wait for you till the moon turns blue I’ll wait for you till the sky falls through I’m waiting I’m waiting I waited alone at a table for two I drank all the wine I checked on the time I waited and waited and waited for a sign I’ll wait for you till the moon turns blue I’ll wait for you till the sky falls through I’m waiting I’m waiting

Bye and Bye 03:20
Sometimes it seems like forever that you’re waiting Like waiting for a bust that will never come And life goes by bye and bye Life goes by bye and bye You can spend all your time at the station Looking up the track And then you spend all your time on the train Looking back At life go by bye and bye Life goes by bye and bye You can spend all the days of your life saving You can save all the life in you’re days waiting As life goes by bye and bye Life goes by bye and bye

about

Don Morrison Adelaide, Australia

“Don Morrison is a larger than life character who is smaller than he should be in terms of fame and success. He could have been Paul Kelly, or John Mellencamp, or Bruce Springsteen, and to some loyal followers he is in the same category as these well known troubadours. Circumstances have prevented Don from achieving similar levels of fame, but he is a local treasure none the less." ... more
